Again, sorry for the problems. The username and password we were given
to make direct posts expired yesterday evening prior to our getting the
scores posted.

The results are as follows:
Day 8 scores:
1st place for the day - Garret Willat with 1000 points 209.87 miles
at a speed of 69.2 mph
2nd place for the day - Gary Kemp with 960 points 202.32 miles
at a speed of 66.43 mph
3rd place for the day - Nelson Funston with 930 points 192.61 miles at
a speed of 64.33 mph

Garret Willat was awarded the Larissa Straukoff Memorial Trophy for the
fastest speed on any task. He flew Day 4 at a speed of 85.3 mph

Constst winners were:
3rd place with 6991 total points - Garret Willat
2nd place with 7043 total points - Gary Kemp
1st place with 7281total points - Nelson Funston who is now the new

Thanks for the speedy reply. What a "battle of the Super Cruisers"! It
was thrilling to follow along overseas here, My respect goes out to all
the Masters who race to win, and to the winner. R

Just wanted to take a moment to post a clarification in re; our
username and password for the contest postings. Aparently they did not
expire as I was led to believe, in point of fact our scorer instead
made an error while trying to log in. All is well and the final posting
has been put up. Our thanks to all those who assisted us in getting our
postings up on the SSA site - they have been most helpful.

Thank you, Jay for clarifying exactly what the problems were regarding
posting of results from the Open Class Nationals recently.

I'd like to give some credit to two SSA volunteers: Doug Easton (SSA
Director at Large) and Titian Scholtemeyer (SSA's volunteer website
designer, responsible for our interactive Where to Fly Map, and now
working on many other revisions to the site) recognized the need for a
better way to report contest results months ago, and completely rebuilt
the old system. In the past, scorers emailed daily and final results to
Hobbs, where an SSA staffer had to manually upload them to the site,
coming into the office even on their weekend days off. I think at some
point Charlie was able to upload directly as well.

Titian (who has not had the time to fly a glider in ages, and never
races) and Doug (who races rarely) automated the entire system. My
understanding is Guy Byars also made some mods to Winscore to assist them.

On May 17, Doug contacted registered representatives of every contest to
be held this season, informing them of the new system, and that discrete
passwords would have to be obtained for each event (and how to get
them). The new system requires no reformatting of data, but each scorer
has to enter assigned codes for their event, and passwords for
themselves. Representatives of approximately 50% of this season's
racing events have still never responded to Doug's May 17 note, have no
passwords, and will therefore be unable to upload results.

When there was a problem uploading results from the Open Nationals (no
password had been obtained), Doug was out of the country. I was doing
my best to be a stand in webmaster. But no one ever sent an email to
the SSA webmaster email address. And it being the long July 4th
weekend, there was no one in the Hobbs office to talk with. Titian saw
the note here on RAS regarding race result uploading problems, picked up
the phone, and spent a considerable amount of time to eventually reach
John Daly, the scorer. The problem was rapidly resolved. Titian assisted
John again when he had problems posting the final results.

It's hard for me to imagine any better membership service to SSA members.

In the interest of having future contest results posted in a smooth and
timely fashion, any contest organizer/scorer without passwords for their
events should please contact Doug Easton, who will be available again
this Monday. Refer to his May 17 message to you for his email address.

Thanks for explaining, and thank all of you who work hard to make it
happen.
